WP Spin review

A relative newcomer to the WordPress plugin scene, WP Spin is designed to help you avoid duplicate content issues, while at the same time keeping your content fresh.

How is WP Spin going to achieve these goals? By automatically spinning your content.

If you’re not familiar with content spinning, it is a process where you find synonyms for keywords and phrases in your original text and put them in a special syntax like {my phrase|synonym 1|synonym 2}. The software then will pick one version from each pair of brackets, generating unique content in each cycle. The more synonyms you add, the more unique your content becomes.

Spinners are great tools if you need to automate article marketing, rewrite a lot of articles and – more generally – generate unique content for any reason.

You can opt for high-quality spinning where you manually pick all synonyms, but many of us are playing the volume game – many pages are generated automatically and we need a way to automate content spinning as well.

This is where WP Spin enters the stage.

WP Spin will spin your content on autopilot, giving you a lot of flexibility at the same time.

How does WP Spin works?

WP Spin review

WP Spin plugs into The Best Spinner database to automatically spin content on your blog.

Auto-spinning is a challenging process and requires a very good synonym database and efficient parsing mechanisms at the backend. Developer of WP Spin decided not to reinvent the wheel and instead rely on the virtually industry standard The Best Spinner.

This is both good and bad, but the good part seriously outweighs the bad part.

The bad – you’ll need a valid license for The Best Spinner which is sold for $77 per year.

The good – you get access to the best available thesaurus which is being constantly updated via contributions from its users.

And now, it gets even better – after you purchase WP Spin, you will be able to purchase The Best Spinner with a special discount for only $47. That’s a steal – $47 + $27 for WP Spin is $74 – less than $77 for the TBS alone. And you get the full desktop TBS version that is extremely powerful, plus you can use the same API access with many other tools, such as WP Robot which also makes an excellent use of TBS.

According to an agreement between developers of the two products, you can make unlimited API calls from withing WP Spin to TBS.

However, if you don’t feel like the idea of spending even more money, a special version called WP Spin Lite is available as well. This version does not need an active TBS subscription and comes with its own 80,000 word thesaurus. While nothing to be compared to TBS in terms of sheer size, it still makes your content more unique.

How to set up WP Spin?

WP Spin can work in two basic modes – manual spinning and automatic spinning of all posts.

WP Spin offers a manual mode

If you want to remain in control, go for manual spinning in WP Spin

If  you use WP Spin in manual mode, you will notice that it adds two new buttons to the WordPress editor.

If you click “A”, WP Spin will quickly spin the entire original article, but first you’re given a chance to set some options. As with auto-mode, you can choose to have the article spun just once, or spun with every view or spun on a schedule.

I would not recommend using the “Spun When Viewed” option. The search engines will not like it, as it looks spammy and is not a natural pattern.

Manual schedule in WP Spin

In manual mode, you can pick exact days when you want your content to be spun.

On the other hand, spinning on a schedule is very flexible as you can actually pick specific dates, using a visual calendar, to select your dates.

A second new button, with letter “S” on it, helps you identify synonyms in a more controlled way. It is disabled by default, but as soon as you select some text in the post editor, it becomes active. It will spin only the selected article content, so you can pick single words, sentences or paragraphs. This way, you are in the driver’s seat and you may spin as much or as little as you fancy. One plausible strategy is to only spin the last paragraph and set in on schedule, leaving the rest of the post intact. This way, the quality remains high, but there is enough variation to keep the spiders coming.

Please keep in mind – in the manual mode, you decide what to spin on a post by post basis. Content is not being spun automatically.

Automatic content spinning

If you go for Auto Spin All Posts, all content will be spun (but you can define exceptions)

If you want to spin all content automatically, you have to go to WP Spin options and activate the “Auto Spin All Posts” option. You will have to set some preferences afterwards. First of all, you need to choose one of three quality levels – Good, Better and Best. I usually go for “Better” – a good balance between uniqueness and readability.

With auto spinning, you get access to one of the most powerful option – setting a schedule for content spinning. You can put your posts on a schedule and they will be automatically spun every X days, weeks or even months. I tend to set this options to spin posts every 2 months. It is a reasonable setting to make your blog appear fresh to the search engines, but not too spammy.

Flexibility is the king

Apart from auto/manual modes and scheduling, what else makes WP Spin such a flexible solution?

Exceptions and excluded keywords

The option to exclude certain keywords, and to add certain categories or individual posts to exceptions helps you fine-tune your installation.

Well, for starters, you can exclude certain words or phrases  from spinning. This is a necessity if you optimize your content for certain keywords and want them to remain intact. You can define excluded words both for “Auto Spin All Posts” and for “Individual Post Spinning” modes.

You can also exclude individual categories and posts / pages. This is very useful if you want to optimize the overall structure of your blog. For example, in many autoblogs, you would have several “money pages” of high quality and hundreds of auto-generated posts which serve as food for the search engine crawlers. You don’t want to auto-spin your money pages, and with the available options, you can easily exclude them.

There is also an option to spin titles. I don’t use it – titles are too important, and I always optimize them, so I don’t need any random spinning.

What can you use WP Spin for?

  • To get your autoblogs more easily indexed
  • If you use backlink indexers, such as Backlink Energizer or Backlink Index Express, you may want to use WP Spin to get spiders visit your blogs more frequently and get more links indexed
  • To make your blog appear always fresh to the search engines – if you set a schedule to spin your content every 2 or 3 months, search engine crawlers are much more likely to visit your blog again and again.

I”ve started to use WP Spin a lot on my blogs and it does work beautifully. My content gets indexed very quickly, and WP Spin works reliably. I’m sure it is partially linked to the fact that it uses the very mature technology of The Best Spinner, proven over the last few years. It makes me even more happy that my previous investment in TBS allows me now an even better return on my investment.

In short, I highly recommend that you now visit the WP Spin website and get this plugin today – it will make your arsenal of tools a lot more powerful, and your life easier.
